Privacy Policy
How we handle your personal and credit information.
Local Capital Pty Ltd trading as Credit4U is bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles, and Part IIIA of the Privacy Act which governs credit reporting. Last updated 25 August 2026.
What we collect
Through our enquiry form we collect: your name, date of birth, postcode, phone number, email address, employment status, income, self-described credit history, the amount you wish to borrow and its purpose.
If you proceed to a formal application, the lender will require substantially more — identity documents, income verification, bank statements and details of your existing debts.
Our website also collects standard analytics data through Google Analytics, including pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device type and referral source. This is used to understand how the site is used and to measure advertising.
Why we collect it
To assess which lenders may be able to assist you; to comply with our responsible lending and best interests obligations under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act; to submit applications on your behalf with your consent; to communicate with you; and to meet our legal record-keeping obligations.
Credit information
Submitting our enquiry form does not trigger a credit check. We do not obtain a credit report at the enquiry stage and no enquiry is recorded against your credit file.
If you ask us to proceed with a formal application, the lender will obtain your credit report from a credit reporting body, and that enquiry will be recorded on your file. We will make this clear before it happens.
The main credit reporting bodies in Australia are Equifax, Experian and illion. You have a right to obtain a free copy of your credit report from each once every three months, and to have incorrect information corrected.
Who we disclose to
We may disclose your information to lenders on our panel for the purpose of assessing your enquiry or application; to service providers who assist us in operating our business under confidentiality obligations; and to regulators or others where required by law.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not provide it to unrelated third parties for their own marketing.
Overseas disclosure
Some of our service providers, including email and analytics providers, store data on servers outside Australia, including in the United States. We take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients handle your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Direct marketing
We may contact you about products or services relevant to your enquiry. You can opt out at any time by replying to any message or emailing info@credit4u.com.au, and we will action it promptly.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics and Google Ads conversion tracking to understand site usage and measure advertising. These use cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser, though some parts of the site may not work as intended. Google's practices are described at policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out of Google Analytics at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Where we send conversion data to Google, any email address or phone number is hashed in your browser before transmission. We do not transmit your identity in readable form.
Security and retention
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. Our website uses encrypted connections. We retain records for at least 7 years as required by credit licensing obligations, then destroy or de-identify them.
Access, correction and complaints
You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. Email info@credit4u.com.au. We will respond within 30 days. There is no fee for making a request, though we may charge a reasonable cost for providing access in some circumstances.
If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles, email us with PRIVACY COMPLAINT in the subject line. We will respond within 30 days. If unsatisfied, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or 1300 363 992, or to AFCA (member 45276).
